Tomáš Průcha — portrét (černobílý)

I came to stage technology through music and playing in a band. From a deep interest in sound it was only a small step to other areas.

Early on I worked for a small company providing sound, lighting, projection, and interpreting systems. Later I spent seven years at the Prague Municipal Library event halls as a technician, the last three years as head technician. Alongside that I worked on festival production, programming for a small club, and projection at the One World and MFDF Jihlava festivals. During the COVID-19 pandemic I expanded into streaming and video. Gradually I realised how fundamentally light shapes the overall perception of a performance.

Since around 2021 I’ve focused mainly on theatre. My first experiences came as a technician with Taneční centrum Praha and its student ensembles, later moving into operating the lighting console.

Over the last four seasons I’ve mostly worked with the Prague Chamber Ballet (PKB). I discovered I enjoy the operator’s role, but also contributing my own ideas to performances.

Through PKB I was involved in many projects, including international tours (Japan, Turkey, Hungary), preparing documentation and operating shows. At home I toured many Czech theatres and cultural venues. I learned to recognise what is essential for a quality production — and what is best avoided. I can adapt productions from large theatres to smaller stages while maintaining the highest possible standard.

Thanks to my varied experience I have a broad overlap across different technical areas, and when I don’t know something, I know who to ask.

At the end of last season I finished my collaboration with PKB. Now I’m looking forward to new projects — especially in dance theatre, but I’m open to other challenges as well.
